August 14th letter from the superintendent

August 14, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Thank you all for submitting your registrations for in-person or remote learning this year. If you have not already done so, we need that information immediately. Parents have the option of 100% virtual or 5 days in person. If you have not made a selection by 8/21/20, we will default your child to in-person instruction.

We are currently working on a plan to offer before and aftercare for students. If you think you may need this service, please complete this survey to help us understand your needs. If we receive enough interest, we will continue to pursue this possibility.

All updates to our program plan are posted on the district website, under the School Reopening tab. Please check this for information, Q and A, etc.

Due to the response we have had so far, we are able to run our in-person program 5 days a week, with social distancing and safety protocols in place.

·       For grades 1-6, Monday-Thursday will be regular days, and every Friday will be an early dismissal of 1:00 pm. The first week of school, September 8-11 will all be 1:00 pm dismissal days.

·       For grades PreK and K, every day of the week, including the first week of school will be 8:30-2:30.

You will receive details about busing, parent drop off, your child's class placement, supply lists, and meet the teacher opportunities as they becomeavailable.

A revised school calendar will be approved by the Board of Education on August 25 and will be subsequently distributed.

Chromebook distribution will take place during the first week of September. Please look for more details about that in the coming weeks. If you already have a Chromebook issued by the district, you do not have pick up another one.

Parent orientation sessions for the Edmentum program will be scheduled for the first week of school. These are open to all parents, even those whose children will attend school in-person. This platform will be part of EVERY student's program.

·       You will receive details about your child's class placement, meet the teacher opportunities, supply lists and associated details as they become available.

·       A revised school calendar will be approved by the Board of Education on August 25 and will be subsequently distributed.

We will continuously monitor data and emerging information. Please be prepared for the possibility that we have to move from the current path to a full virtual one if conditions change.

We appreciate your input, patience, support and partnership as we work to provide the very best program possible under the current circumstances. It certainly will be a different kind of year, but please know we will do everything possible to make the 2020-2021 school year safe and happy for all, with productive learning and social opportunities for your children.
